Chronic Knee Pain
Dealing with Chronic Knee Pain
Chronic knee pain can be extremely frustrating due to the limitations it brings on. Previously simple tasks such as walking, running, hiking, biking, skiing, or simply bending over to pickup a child or grandchild can become difficult and sometimes unbearable.
At first you might think you pulled a muscle or worked out too hard. Or perhaps you suffered an injury such as an ACL or meniscus tear. The proper surgery and/or physical therapy is performed. You give it time to heal, but the pain just wont go away. You may try things like chiropractic adjustments, massage, more physical therapy, or medication, only to find you get temporary relief at best. These are typical scenarios we hear from our patients here at Brain and Body Chiropractic.
So why are you still in pain?
As mentioned on our PAIN RESET page, most injured tissues tend to heal within 3 months. Pain is typically experienced from an injury but then goes away as the injury heals like it should. However, sometimes during this time your nerves become hypersensitive to pain. Simply put, they become very good at sending pain signals. In this case, even though your injury has healed, your nerve will continue to send pain signals for little or sometimes no reason. This nerve hypersensitivity results in chronic pain.

Why hasn’t other treatments fixed the problem?
Your pain is treated from where your doctor or therapist feels its coming from. This is often either a joint or soft tissue such as muscles, ligaments, or tendons. Hip pain = treat the hip joint/muscles/ligaments/tendons. Knee pain = treat the knee joint/muscles/ligaments/tendons. And so on. However, if your pain is coming from a hypersensitive nerve than the nerve itself is where the focus and treatment needs to be. Unfortunately, these types of noninvasive nerve focused treatments are not very common.
Fortunately, we do this very well here at Brain and Body Chiropractic.

“Doctors Lily and Kody totally changed my life in a positive way! I messed up my knee by refurbishing an old wood floor. I did PT, knee braces and prescription ointment for swelling. Nothing was working and began to accept the possibility of knee surgery. The babying my bad right knee started to mess up my left hip. I went from regular workouts and doing construction to barely being able to do a full “Meijer run”.
Dr Lily and Dr Kody worked on me and I am back in business! My pain in my knee and hip are gone along with the swelling. They gave me my mobility, my life back.”

“I’ve had ongoing knee pain for the last 4 years and have tried everything from physical therapy to acupuncture, Dr. Semrow is warm and friendly during our sessions and has made a huge different in my knee as well as my neck and back. She also does a great job of explaining what is going on during the session as well as answers all my questions. I would highly recommend her and Brain and Body Chiropractic!”

“This was my first time ever to a Chiropractor and Dr. Kody and Dr. Lily made the experience very comfortable for me. I have been struggling with knee pain from a slip and fall over 2 years ago, among other pain. Within 2 treatments, the pain was all but gone. Something my ortho doctor could not figure out or fix for me. I highly recommend Brain and Body Chiropractic to anyone. I will certainly be back!”
