In my previous post<\/a> about fiber in green smoothies, I briefly discussed the different types of fibers and their benefits. Remember the soluble and sticky (gel-forming) type of fiber is the one that can lower blood cholesterol and blood sugar. I am going to jump right into it and show you how to determine if your supplement is worth paying for.<\/p>\n

If you are using a specific fiber supplement for its cholesterol lowering, and blood sugar lowering effects, here is what to do to see if the supplement you take can provide those health benefits.<\/p>\n

These simple steps are recommended in the literature. (2)<\/p>\n

  1. Stir a single dose of the product (2-4g of fiber) into 120 ml of water.<\/li>\n
  2. Let it sit for 15 minutes.<\/li>\n
  3. Observe if the supplement dissolve in the water and form a highly viscous gel.<\/li>\n
  4. If the answer is no, your supplement is probably not providing the health benefits you expected.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
